Fractal
visionaries
and enthusiasts:
Most of today's discussion appears in the philofractal
version.
The image is part of the fractal that results when 0.6 part of Z^2 is
subtracted from 0.6 part of Z^(-2) and (1/C) is added.
The terraced effect came about when I rendered the scene with the
outside set to 'tdis'. I put almost no effort into the
fractal,
so I gave it no name and no rating.
The image renders using the passes=b option, which adds a bit of
excitement to the rendering. The render time of 1-1/2 minutes
is
quite brief, assuring that little time will have been wasted if the
image proves not worth the effort.
As I was writing the longer philofractal version of yesterday's
discussion, fractal lady happened to glance at the screen.
She
said that I was writing like an Atheist and trying to destroy people's
faith. I replied that I could not possibly do a better job of
destroying faith than had just been done in West Virginia by a
nonsensical image of an all-good-and-powerful deity. It was
but a
minor victory when she nodded in agreement.
But I am left to wonder. How did we in the West ever get
stuck
with religious philosophies so contrived that they cannot even make
sense of the routine natural calamities of the physical
world?
And what is the alternative? We seem to be faced with a
choice of
deluding ourselves into peace of mind or turning to reason and finding
meaningless despair! With these as choices, is it any wonder
so
many are seeking the artificial comfort of drugs?
Despite current events, the fractal cats had a good day here at Old
Fractal Central in the 50F 10C temperature on Thursday. I
enjoy
seeing them happy -- it saves on tuna. As for myself, I'm
working
myself into one of those moods that comes on whenever some big, well
publicized calamity happens. But I'll work out of it by
posting
my thoughts to the philofractal list. The next FOTD will
appear
for better or worse in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and
sometimes I find it difficult to maintain my positive attitude.
