total obscuration

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

The name of today's image, "Total Obscuration", refers to the parent fractal, not the image itself, which is anything but totally obscured.  This parent consists of a group of blobs roughly resembling the shape of the Mandelbrot set that it largely but not quite totally obscures.  Today's scene lies at the eastern edge of the largest remaining open area, just north of the X-axis.

Perhaps the most incredible thing about the parent fractal is that the infinitesimal 0.000000000000001 part of Z^(-100), when added to 0.5 part of Z^2, could make such a difference.

The art rating of 5 and math rating of 6 indicate that very little inspiration or effort were involved in the creation of the image.  (I realize that an artist should never belittle his work, but I have never been very big on hubris.)

The image will take about 5 minutes to calculate on the average machine.  Take it and run the parameter file, or leave it and check one of the web sites.

A partly cloudy, rather warm and muggy day with a temperature of 84F 29C was interrupted in the afternoon by a heavy thunder shower that dropped 1-1/4 inches, or 3.2cm of rain in 15 minutes.  The fractal cat watched the rain with interest, then took a nap with even more interest.  The fractal humans got into a discussion about conspiracy theories, some of which just might be true despite making no sense at all.

The next FOTD will be posted when I get a round tuit.  Until I find the tuit, take care, and if aliens are flitting around in our skies at will, breaking all kinds of physical laws, why does it seem so irrational to believe in them?
