Fractal
visionaries
and enthusiasts:
Today's polka-dotted image lies in the parent fractal that results when
three negative parts of Z^(-2.3) are combined with one negative part of
Z^(-7.7) and (1/C) is added on each iteration. The resulting
fractal is a sprawling thing with a main bay that resembles Mickey
Mouse lying on his right side. Today's scene is located in a
filament extending from a lump on Mickey's right ear.
The art rates a 7; the math rates a 6. There have been far
better
images in FOTD history, and we have been to this part of the world of
fractal math many times before.
The name "Spots Before the Eyes" simply describes the overall
impression of the image. Calculating the scene with the
logmap
reset to zero and the outside set to 'tdis' eliminates some of the
spottiness, but brings little improvement to the overall appearance of
the image.
Perhaps the best feature of today's FOTD is its unusually brief
calculation time of 30 seconds, which is quite surprising especially
considering the image's magnitude of over 10^12. The web
sites
are always there to eliminate any residual impatience.
Near perfect weather prevailed here at Fractal Central today.
Near perfection is defined as partly cloudy skies, lower humidity and a
temperature of 82F 28C. The two fractal cats enjoyed the
conditions to the most of their cat ability, while the fractal humans,
with other things to do, paid little attention to the outside
conditions.
The next FOTD will be posted in a day or so. A FOTD posting
every
other day seems to be becoming the new FOTD normal, but this is not a
permanent change in the schedule. Until whenever, take care,
and
there were several tornadoes in the local area two days ago.
Believe it or not, the number of resulting power outages made bigger
news than the damage and deaths caused by the storm. Even
today
the outages are still the top local story. When a few days
without electricity and the resulting unendurable disconnection from
the rest of the world is seen as a greater disaster than the deaths of
five people, I begin to suspect we have become a bunch of underactive
overweight tech-addicts who are much too fascinated with and dependent
on the latest hi-tech gadgets.
