brother of shadows

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Those who checked the parent fractal of yesterday's image, which I said resembles 'pac-man', might have been surprised when they found an everyday Mandelbrot set instead.  But do not despair.  The pac-man figure really exists.  It is the large minibrot on the main stem of the full Mandelbrot-set parent.

As for today's image, it is another scene in a Mandelbrot set corrupted in its depths by Z^(3.5) energies, though in today's case the corruption is deeper and better hidden.

The scene of today's action is very deep in the East Valley of the parent fractal, at a magnitude of over 6*(10^13).  At this magnitude we are at the absolute extremity of resolution, and the first traces of breakdown are already beginning to appear along the band edges, which makes the mathtolerance entry in the parameter file necessary.

The elements surrounding the central minibrot, which is of order 3.5, are arranged in a doubling 3.5...7...14... series, though except for the very prominent 7 spirals, the orderliness is quite subtle.

The necessary discontinuities are also unusually subtle, since they are mixed with Z^2 energies.  The only obvious one is in the upper right quadrant of the image.

The name "Brother of Shadows" sounds more important than it is.  The words popped into my head when I shut off my thinking.  The calculation time of 3-1/2 minutes could lead to some impatience, so if impatience rears its head, check the FOTD web sites.

Yesterday's rain moved out overnight here at Fractal Central, leading to a sunny and breezy day with a temperature of 72F 22C and a kodachrome blue sky decorated with cotton-puff clouds.  The fractal cats, who approved of the conditions, came out of hot-weather stretch-out mode and entered cold-weather curl-up mode.

The humans, who are always in the same mode regardless of the temperature, made it through the day uneventfully.  The next FOTD will be posted in a measurable time.  Until then, take care, and to make a real change, try something different.
