Fractal visionaries:

Everyone enjoys the night sky, but those who enjoy fractals enjoy the night sky more than most, for when one faces the night sky, that person faces the same infinity that exists in every fractal pattern.

The sky at night is unfathomable space.  It either goes on forever, or stops, or, as Einstein hinted, curves back on itself.  All three possibilities are beyond imagination.  It is as impossible to know all of space as it is to know all of the Mandelbrot set, even in only two of its four dimensions.

Today's fractal is one of my favorites.  It is my vision of the night sky as seen through a network of fractal spirals.  It must be drawn at a resolution of 1024x768 to be fully appreciated, but even at that resolution it's quite fast.

The finished image has been posted to a.b.p.f. and a.f.p. for those who would prefer to view it without tying up their computers.
