March 9, 2012: The Vast Unknown | March 8 | March 10 | 2011 | FOTD Home |
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
The
math energies
behind today's image mix 11.25 parts of Z^(-0.5) with 0.1125 part of
Z^(-25) on each iteration before adding reciprocal C. This
weird
combination creates a parent fractal consisting of a circular sea of
radius 0.4 centered a little below the negative X-axis, with something
resembling a blob-tree sprouting from the eastern shore into the empty
interior. Today's image lies in the detail of a tiny
bud-radical
at the tip of this fractal tree.
I named the image "The Vast Unknown", which refers more to the
scientifically unexplored inner space of consciousness than to the
outer space of the cosmos or the infinite virtual space of fractals.
A good part of the image consists of inside stuff. More work
on
the coloring, especially trying other inside coloring options, might
have raised the rating. However, using laziness as an excuse,
I
declined to exert the effort.
The image earns a rating of a 7, another average rating, which makes
the calculation time of 3-1/2 minutes a rather poor bargain.
The
FOTD web sites are a better deal than running the included parameter
file.
Fractal Central experienced a brief return to winter today, with heavy
scudding clouds, occasional flurries of half-melted snow and a
temperature of 41F +5C, which caused the house heat to come
on.
The local fractal cats abandoned hope of sun well before noon, and
spent the afternoon enjoying the warmth of their shelf by the hallway
radiator-convector. The humans had an above average day,
especially FL, who received well-deserved kudos for a recent design job.
The next FOTD is scheduled to be posted in 24 hours, give or take a
few, but tomorrow is Saturday, the day we humans reserve for fun stuff,
so there is no guarantee that it will appear as scheduled.
Until
whenever, take care, and believe it or not, some hard-core skeptics
actually claim that there is no such thing as human consciousness,
because it cannot be put on a table, dissected and studied
scientifically.
