Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:  

Today's image is a near repeat of an earlier FOTD image, which is why I named it "Encore".

The rather unusual parent fractal resembles a Mandelbrot set being squashed inside a shrinking ring.  Today's scene lies in the spurious detail that fills East Valley of this M-set.

The effect of a minibrot illuminating its surroundings was achieved by coloring the 'inside' brilliant white and rendering the scene with the 'outside' set to 'fmod'.

The calculation time of 50 seconds is quite fast, leaving little time to ponder the fractal mysteries.  Checking the web sites will be equally fast, leaving the mysteries unsolved.

Heavy clouds prevailed here at Fractal Central today, but it remained dry, while a few breaks of sun kept the fractal cats from feeling too glum.  The temperature of 79F 26C brought few complaints from either the cats or humans.

The next FOTD will be posted in the near future.  Until then, take care, and if we really wanted to fight climate change, we would stop pushing meaningless politically-driven steps that could do nothing more than make us feel better while the planet continues to grow hotter.

If we were really serious, which we apparently are not, we would abandon the use of motor vehicles and airplanes powered by energy derived from fossil fuels, and drastically curb the use of electricity to power our homes and factories until the time comes (if ever) when we can generate reliable power from nuclear fusion.  If we cry that these steps would be too harsh and would wreck the economy, as they probably would, then let's suck it up, pack away our protest signs, admit defeat and prepare for the immense problems soon to come.  Wind and solar energy will never come close to replacing coal, oil and natural gas.
