Fractal
visionaries
and enthusiasts:
Today's image is a scene in the same parent fractal as yesterday's,
located not too far from yesterday's image. But while
yesterday's
image somewhat resembles a Julia set, today's resembles nothing that I
have ever before seen. The name "Out of the Ordinary" refers
to
the uniqueness of the fractal 'object' in the image.
The overlapping circular rings in the image are obviously order-101
stuff. The entire 'object' itself however is neither
quadratic
nor order-101. A bit more exploration in this area would
probably
bring a little sense to the scene. It's unfortunate that I
lack
the time, but there are an infinity of infinite fractals to be
investigated and only a limited time remaining. (Or is there
all
eternity?)
Perhaps the most unusual feature of the image is the location of the
bands with the least iteration count, which instead of being located
along the edges of the frame are found in the small brilliant yellow
spot near the center.
I sometimes question thinking of fractal patterns as 'objects', since
they have no physical reality. But then, despite the
disagreement
of rational materialists, physical reality itself is kind of an
illusion, since all we will ever know of it, if it exists at all, is
through a series of subjective mental images created by our five (or
more) senses. And a kind of 'reality' does exist in the world
of
fractals. When different fractalists observe the Mandelbrot
set,
they certainly observe a picture of the same 'something'.
The rating of a 7.5 includes the usual half-point bonus for the
coloring, which took over a half-hour.
The calculation time of 2-1/4 minutes is relatively brief, and should
bring no impatience.
Today's weather here at Fractal Central was quite normal and therefore
not very spectacular. The mostly sunny skies and temperature
of
52F 11C drew not a single comment. The fractal cats, who
never
comment on the weather no matter how unpleasant it might be, spent the
day ckecking the new scratching post that arrived yesterday.
Nicholas took first scratches, but Cassie laid first claims to the top
platform.
The humans spent the day cleaning up the week's shrinking amount of
commercial work. The next FOTD will be posted in 24
hours.
Until then, take care, and if metaphysical things are so unreal, how is
it possible for us to see actual pictures of fractals on the screen.
