the cleansing fire

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's parent fractal was created by combining various parts of Z^(-1.5), Z, Z^(-0.5) and Z^(2).  This combination has a critical value of 0.563... and also a second critical value that I have not yet tracked down.  The parent is a slightly distorted Mandelbrot set surrounded mostly on the west by a large field of debris filled with holes and minibrots of various sizes and shapes.  Today's scene ignores this outlying debris however and centers on the East Valley of the parent, where the debris converges and vanishes into the depths.

The art rating of 7.5 is largely due to my semi-skilled coloring efforts.  I actually did put almost an hour into the colors.  The math rating remains an average 6.  By this time, the trick of finding critical values graphically is old news, though I have just begun to explore the basically endless world of four-exponent fractals.

The name "The Cleansing Fire" has no connection to the catholic idea of purgatory.  In fact, it has no connection to the image.  It simply came into my head when I emptied it of everything else.  But it does get attention, so it will remain.

The calculation time of 2-3/4 minutes is rather slow.  The more impatient fractalists, who were not around when fractals sometimes took days to finish on snail-speed computers, can avoid the wait by checking the web sites.

After the early morning fog cleared off, the day turned out sunny here at Fractal Central, while the temperature of 64F 18C was quite pleasant for October.  The older fractal cat enjoyed the sun on his shelf; the new fractal kitten was too busy exploring her new surroundings and playing.  The humans watched to see how the new fractal duo was getting along together.

The next FOTD will be posted in a day or two.  Until the time comes, take care, and they say God works in mysterious ways.  I say He should stop hiding His reasons, and get it all out into the open.
