Sept. 19, 2012: Reciprocal of Infinity | Sept. 18 | Sept. 20 | 2012 | FOTD Home |
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's
scene is a
trip into the parent fractal that results when three negative parts of
Z^(-2.3) are combined with one negative part of Z^(-5.6) on each
iteration before (1/C) is added.
This parent roughly resembles a diamond filled with debris.
The
southeast point of the diamond has strong Mandelbrot features including
a pseudo-main bay and a very prominent straight main spike pointing
southeast, which terminates as a filament in the shape of a large
broken circle. Today's scene is located near the evaporating
southwest edge of the shore line of the 'main bay'.
A good part of the image is actually 'inside' stuff made visible by the
'zmag' inside fill. The black inside of the large central
minibrot is hand colored. Luckily, none of the
inside-the-minibrot color registers also appear outside the minibrot.
The name "Reciprocal of Infinity" is a phrase that came to mind as I
studied the image. The actual reciprocal of infinity is zero,
though there might be different orders of zero (are they technically
called infinitesimals?) for the different orders of infinity.
I
lack the knowledge to recognize the difference.
With a rating of a 7, the worth of the image falls right in the middle
of the FOTD range.
The calculation time of 4-1/4 minutes is a slight drag, but headache
relief is always available on the web sites.
After yesterday's washout, when over 3-inches or 8-cm of rain fell,
today seemed quite pleasant. The sky cleared just after
sunrise,
leading to a partly cloudy invigorating day with a high temperature of
68F 21C. The fractal cats, fully invigorated, got into a
lively
tussle over something only they were aware of. Little Cassie
came
out on top, while oversized Nicholas sulked away his defeat.
The humans passed the mid-week doing totally human things such as
finishing the unexpectedly heavy work. The next FOTD will
certainly be posted, but I am not saying exactly when. Until
whenever, take care, and don't forget to add rice to the list of foods
that are hazardous to one's health.
