Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: 

Today's quickie image lies in a bit of left-over debris inside the third bud out the main stem of the corrupted Mandelbrot set that is its parent.

This parent M-set is corrupted in its depths by Z^5 energies, and today's image, at an extreme magnitude of over 5*10^(12), lies well within the range of total changeover to the quintic world.

The name "Ring Around the Quintic" refers to the quintic minibrot at the center and the spectacular ring of chaos surrounding it.  I leave it to the individual viewer to decide whether this ring justifies the description of spectacular.

The calculation time of 30 seconds is fast by any standards however, probably faster than viewing the finished image on the FOTD web sites.  But by viewing the image on the web sites, the annoying chore of calculation may be avoided.

Today here at Fractal Central passed with cloudy skies and a temperature of 34F +1C, with forecasts of much colder and snowier conditions to come.  The fractal cats had a quiet day except when 4.5 pound (2kg) Jasmine jumped on 15 pound (7kg) Nico by surprise and bowled him over before he knew what had happened.  He then quickly subdued her, letting her know who is still top cat.  The humans meanwhile spent the day preparing for another year.

The next FOTD will be posted before the year ends, or maybe not.  Until whenever, take care, and now, at the end of 2013, I hear people are looking forward to a better year in 2014.  A year ago, at the end of 2012, they were looking forward to a better year in 2013.
